Protects your patio from the  weather and uv damage

Enhance, maintain and protect Siberian larch decking with UV protecting decking oil. Easy to apply and maintain! Wood protective Oils provide excellent coverage and penetration to protect against the bad  weather and wear all year round.

UV Decking Oil can be used on all pre-treated, pressure treated and preservative impregnated decking boards and is also suitable for woodeb sheds, fences and pergolas.

PREPARATION

Make sure the decking areas to be oiled are clean, dry and free of surface dirt and debris.

New softwood deck

  • For unprotected decking that is exposed to moisture or has mold and mildew, it is recommended that the wood be treated with a mold and mildew remover prior to oiling.
  • For the best protection, all new softwood decking should be treated with a suitable outdoor wood preservative.
  • Sweep the base with a stiff brush or broom to remove all traces of surface dirt and grime before oilin.

New hardwood decks

Hardwood decks typically require a period of exposure to the elements to allow the surface grain to open up. This allows for better absorption of the decking oil. Check the decking manufacturer’s instructions for how long the decking should be weatherproof before treating.

OLD DECKING PREPARATION

UV Decking Oil cannot be used over decking that has been painted, varnished or treated with a coating stain. All old finishes must be completely removed to reveal bare wood before the base can be oiled.

  • Ensure that all “coating” type surfaces have been completely removed by jet washing or with a special masking wiper.
  • Old oiled surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned with a suitable decking / patio cleaner.
  • For decking and other surfaces that are or have been affected by mold, algae or black spots, treat the wood with a mold and mildew remover before applying a wood preservative or decking oil.
  • For the best protection, apply an external wood preservative to protect against mold, algae, dry rot, woodworm and wood-related diseases.
  • Wood preservatives should be allowed to dry for at least 24 hours before applying UV Decking Oil.
  • Sweep the base with a stiff broom to remove all traces of surface dirt and grime before oiling.

APPLICATION

Before starting a project, always do a test area to assess the suitability of the product and the final finish.

  • Stir the contents of the can thoroughly before and during use to ensure an even finish.
  • Apply an even coat of UV Decking Oil to all surfaces and edges with a natural decking brush for best performance.
  • Apply to all sides of base and other wood including sawn ends for best results.
  • Wait up to 12 hours between coats.

POST-TREATMENT

Regular cleaning

To maintain the look and performance of the oiled finish for longer, it is recommended that covered areas be swept regularly with a stiff broom. This is to remove loose leaves, dirt, and other organic matter that may settle on the deck and in the grooves.

Thorough cleaning

For a more thorough cleaning to remove scuff marks, stains, grease or other contaminants, we recommend using a specialist garden deck cleaner.

Maintenance

To restore worn or tired looking decking areas, the decking can be refreshed and restored by applying a protective coat of UV Decking Oil. This should be done after cleaning the deck and following the application instructions above.
