Moreover, it does not rot in water, but hardens, and therefore is often used for the construction of underwater structures.
The reason Siberian larch is so durable is because it grows very slowly. The slower that it takes to grow a tree, the more tightly grained it will be. These larch trees have existed for thousands of years in western Russia and there is still a vast supply of them left, unlike many other tree types.
